POSITION: STEM Teacher, Full Time
LOCATION: Charlotte High School
ASSIGNMENT/RESPONSIBILITY: High School STEM teachers will have responsibilities for the 9-12th grade direct instruction to students in the subject areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. A wide variety of tasks are performed in the teaching-learning process for students, primarily to help students learn the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults.
Charlotte High School utilizes Project Lead the Way curriculum to teach Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, and Digital Media. There is a heavy emphasis on 3-D design and the use of 3-D printers. Additionally, there are opportunities for collaboration with shop programs, utilizing a plasma cutter and welders.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of bachelor’s degree in secondary education, grades 6-12 self-contained, or other related field. Endorsement in math or science required. STEM training and certification strongly preferred. State of Michigan teacher certification required. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of elementary school curriculum and philosophy, effective instruction principles, assessment procedures and learning and motivation theory. Demonstrates the personal qualities of an effective teacher including the ability to collaborate with other staff and the ability to communicate well with a wide variety of audiences both in writing and verbally. Demonstrated ability to work independently and, to coordinate and direct the work of others. Demonstrated ability to interact proactively with parents. Prior professional development in early literacy and subject matter literacy. Prior knowledge of state standards and state assessment tools.
