Position Details: 

Position: School Social Worker

Location: Elementary Buildings

Candidate must be certified by the Michigan Department of Education in Social Work.

Must be qualified licensed LMSW or LLMSW and MDE approval for School Social Worker.


• Master's Degree in Social Work

• Hold Social Work license for the State of Michigan

• Previous school social work experience preferred

• Experience using IEP forms and procedures preferred

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and collaborate with

staff, students and parents

• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to

multitask between projects

• History of building successful relationships with school-aged children.

Clinical Services:

• Prepare and review case histories and referral information from referring local school districts

• Conduct intake evaluations

• Provide weekly individual treatment for students with Emotional Impairments

• Co-lead daily classroom affective groups

• Use evidence-based practices to effectively develop treatment and intervention plans for

students and families

• Develop treatment plans

• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team in ongoing evaluation of students' progress in


• Develop and evaluate students' affective goals

• Implement Beacon Day Treatment's Social Leaming Program

• Provide ongoing documentation of treatment for all caseload students

• Provide crisis intervention to families

Case Management:

• Participate in weekly consultation regarding treatment planning and progress of caseload

students with building administrators

• Assist with crisis intervention of caseload students and other students

• Collaborate with other agencies to coordinate treatment team planning when appropriate

• Initiate referral to program consultants (i.e. psychiatrist, psychologist, etc.)

• Provide intake and discharge planning

Other Responsibilities:

• Participate on building committees

• Attend IEPTs and Community School Reviews

• Provide periodic supervision of students (i.e. center coverage, etc.)

• Participate in ongoing Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and review

• Assist General Education and Special Education students to reach academic and

effective behavioral goals by providing crisis intervention and resources/referrals

for daily living needs.

• Interview and inform students and families regarding programs.
