Position Details: 

Instruction and Assessment Consultant

  • Plan and implement activities, programs, and projects to support Wayne County districts and schools in the appropriate use of classroom instruction and assessment tools, strategies, and data, including state, regional, and local assessment/data systems


  • Provide consultant, leadership, and professional development services and resources at Pre-K through secondary levels to Wayne County districts and educators in the integration of instruction and assessment with curriculum, including the use of such data in school operation and school improvement


  • Assist district and school leadership in the development and implementation of balanced assessment systems to best meet district needs for collecting and analyzing multiple data points for effective decision making around curriculum, tiered instruction and student programs
  • Assist district and school leadership in conducting assessment inventories and the purposeful alignment of assessment policies and practices to curriculum, instruction, and stakeholder reporting
  • Promote assessment literacy and the intentional and embedded use of research-based assessment practices in instruction, curriculum planning, professional learning communities, multi-tiered systems of support, educator evaluation, and grading systems
  • Provide consulting and coordinate activities related to classroom instruction and assessment
  • Assist RESA clients with strategies, practices, and resources for conducting needs assessments, data collection, and analysis of data needs to inform school and district improvement planning and initiatives
  • Provide consulting, resources, and professional development to assist districts with the creation of instructional and assessment visions and frameworks
  • Support districts in the effective use and implementation of data management systems
  • Initiate, conduct, and coordinate activities in the areas of classroom instruction and assessment
  • Provide leadership in the use and implementation of technology to facilitate instruction, assessment, and professional development
  • Coordinate and collaborate in the integration of technology into programs
  • Provide technical support and professional development on the appropriate instructional use of state, regional and county assessment/data systems.
  • Know relevant research and effective practices in the field of classroom instruction, assessment, instructional technology, school improvement, school organization, and professional development in the field of public education and in the area of classroom instruction and assessment
  • Coordinate across the Educational Services Department to maintain a team approach to providing district support
  • Collaborate with other RESA staff to plan, develop and deliver professional learning, consulting and resources around the integration of assessment practices for multiple purposes
  • Work in conjunction with other RESA staff to ensure client needs are met in the most efficient and effective manner
  • Plan, use professional judgment, and act effectively to carry out the functions of this position within the direction provided by RESA mission and goals and Instructional Services Department goals and objectives
  • Collaborate as an active team member in organizational projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Master’s degree required
  • Michigan Teaching Certificate required
  • Coursework in educational assessment with an emphasis on the integration of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and the differentiation of instruction preferred    


  • Minimum of three (3) years of K-12 teaching experience required
  • Demonstrated skill and recent experience with classroom instruction, assessment, evaluation, theory and practice required
  • Demonstrated skill in integrating current research-based instruction and assessment strategies with curriculum required
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience in teaching, planning, assessment, evaluation, and curriculum development required
  • Demonstrated consultation, training, group facilitation, and process skills required
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal problem solving and team building skills required
  • Demonstrated skill working with diverse populations required
  • Demonstrated listening, verbal, and written communication skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to use current technology in data analysis and reporting required
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate emerging forms of technology into professional activities required


Current WCSSF 11-Month Salary Schedule – Schedule H ($69,426 - $105,073 FY) and a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance. Generous time off including 19 paid holidays, sick and personal business days.
