Special Education Compliance Consultant
Position Summary: Coordinate efforts to ensure compliance of constituent districts within Oakland County with Federal and state regulations relating to students with disabilities.
Essential Functions and Tasks:
Work cooperatively with the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education and the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE) to ensure compliance of local school districts and public school academies within Oakland County with Federal and state regulations relating to students with disabilities. Serve as an advocate for public education and Oakland County Schools. Support the implementation of mandatory monitoring procedures and continuous improvement efforts within local schools to ensure compliance with Federal and state regulations relating to students with disabilities. Develop and implement standard operational procedures on a continuous improvement basis to increase operating quality and efficiency; conduct staff training on implementation of procedures. Complete corrective action plans with local schools as required and maintain records to ensure legal compliance. Participate in the review of the Oakland Schools plan for Delivery of Special Education Programs and Services; ensure local compliance with the ISD Plan, and make revisions to the ISD plan as necessary. Design and conduct professional learning, technical assistance tools; and guidance to parents, local school personnel, Oakland Schools’ personnel and external agencies in interpretation and implementation of special education mandates and requirements. Maintain knowledge of current legal mandates and requirements related to instruction of students with disabilities; recommend changes to programs, services and operations as necessary. Promote and support Oakland Schools’ organizational culture by reinforcing Board of Education goals, policies and procedures and the organization’s vision, mission, and continuous improvement plan. Participate in the development, implementation and management of departmental strategic/operational plans, standard operating procedures, projects, programs and systems. Work within assigned teams to identify, design, manage, evaluate and assess products and services.
Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or license in related field. Administrator of Special Education approval preferred. Five or more years of related experience. Valid Michigan driver’s license and the ability to travel to local schools throughout Oakland County. Ability to properly operate required office equipment such as a personal computer, fax machine, copier and the like.
Employment Terms: Twelve month work year. Salary based on the Progression Increment Salary System, Market Range 15 with an annual range of $92,857.00 to $106,176.00.
